The 社会研究及教育 program is an inter-disciplinary program and a component of the  "Becoming A Complete Professional" (BCP) teacher education program at Indiana State  University. The content and content methods courses define the SSE major. The BCP teacher education program is housed in the College of Education.

In order to gain admittance into BCP I, students must  complete the  following:

1. Complete the  CASA exam, or have  sufficient SAT/ACT scores to  be exempt from the CASA (see ESS http://coe.aibeshosts.net/ess/casa.htm);
2. Achieve a "C" {AND NOT "C-"} or better in all prerequisite courses;

4. Complete CIMT 200 and ESPY 202 with a "C" or better;

Please  note  students are solely responsible for meeting BCOE deadlines and guidelines associated with the  BCP.

社会研究及教育 Methods Courses
All SSE majors must complete  both 305 and 306. Please note that SS 305 is only taught in the Spring Semester. SS 306只在秋天教, and requires completion of SS305 and CIMT 301/302 as well as co-enrollment in CIMT 400/400L.

SSE 305 Teaching Social Studies in Secondary Schools- 3 credit hours
SSE 306 Interdisciplinary Perspectives in Teaching Social Studies -1credit hour

All students must complete  2 content  areas and specific coursework  across 3 additional social science categories outside of their 2 areas of specialization. All content  area specializations  require  15 hours of  coursework  (except for  history).  History specializations require  24 credit hours. 在某些情况下, a maximum  of 1 specified shared course may be counted towards 2 content specializations (please see coordinator for a list of these courses). A maximum  of 1 shared course is allowable per content area and no shared course can be counted  in more than  2-areas. 学生  must  earn a "C" or better in all content  courses and have a 2.5 GPA or better in the major and overall.

In some  areas of  Foundational Studies, there are  opportunities to  take  courses  which will count both  toward Foundational Studies requirements as well as toward the major.

社会与行为科学(SBS)
•    PSY 101 works as concentration or non-teaching field. Avoid first semester if student thinks she wants to do 社会学 as a concentration.
•    ECON 100 works as a non-teaching field.
•    社会学 101 only if A) 社会学 is a concentration or B)心理学101是 NOT 这是一个集中的区域.

•    ESPY 202 is usually not recommended for first semester students in SSE.

•    ENVI 110/110L works in the geography concentration and is recommended for most SSE majors

道德与社会责任
•    PSCI107 is a good choice for students with a 政府 concentration.
•    HIST 334 is possible for those concentrating in History depending on how the UDIEs (see below) are used.
